Tomorrow will be the 8th time in 8 years an American has won the Tour de France. The top 10 spots in the GC this year was dotted with American riders. Some of the American riders and American teams didn't compete at the levels expected but overall the Americans did show well at the tour this year. There were stage wins, combacks, breakaways, and the Maillot Jaune. The world of cycling is slowly making its way into the mainstream of the United States. It still has a long way to go but it is making progress nonetheless. The one thing I would say were are missing in the states is a world class stage race.
There is the Tour de Georgia. There is the Amgen tour of California. But these tours haven't gained the international respect that is needed for the US to become a real competitor in the cycling world. I know its a long shot but I am waiting in angst for the Tour United. Three weeks of racing around the beautiful United States of America.
And That The Bottom Line!
